At Bayou Gulf States PVA, we are proud to be part of a nationwide network dedicated to empowering veterans living with spinal cord injuries and disorders. Across the country, the Paralyzed Veterans of America (PVA) continues to create opportunities that promote independence, health, advocacy, and community.
One of this week’s biggest highlights is the kickoff of the 45th National Veterans Wheelchair Games in Detroit, Michigan. Hosted in partnership with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, this nationally recognized event welcomes more than 500 veteran athletes to compete in over 20 adaptive sports, showcasing determination, athleticism, and the incredible resilience of our nation’s veterans.
From long-standing favorites like Wheelchair Basketball, Boccia, and Track & Field to growing sports such as Pickleball and Cornhole, the Games demonstrate that adaptive sports continue to evolve while providing meaningful opportunities for veterans of all abilities.
Beyond competition, the National Veterans Wheelchair Games celebrate rehabilitation, friendship, confidence, and lifelong wellness. Every athlete, volunteer, coach, family member, and supporter plays a role in creating an environment where veterans can challenge themselves, connect with others, and achieve new goals.
These events reflect the core mission of Paralyzed Veterans of America—ensuring veterans have access to programs and resources that improve their quality of life while advocating for greater accessibility and inclusion throughout our communities.
As a proud chapter of PVA, Bayou Gulf States PVA celebrates these national achievements while continuing our own work throughout Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and surrounding communities. Whether through advocacy, peer support, adaptive recreation, benefits assistance, or community outreach, we remain committed to serving veterans and their families every day.
We encourage our members and supporters to follow the exciting moments from the National Veterans Wheelchair Games and celebrate the accomplishments of the incredible veterans representing communities across the country.
Together, we continue to prove that there are no limits to what determination, perseverance, and community can accomplish.
